The thumb piano sometimes also known as a kalimba features 7 metal rods called tines that when plucked by your thumb vibrate the tine creating a metallic and resonant tone. Deriving from the more complex mbira this kalimba is constructed in a coconut shell with a carved wooden top fitted for amplifaction the thumb piano plays at a reasonable volume given its size. The tines are tuneable by simply moving the point at which they are clamped allowing for different notes to be set.
