Hofner 1958 Committee Arch Top Jazz Guitar with Framus Pickup

SECOND HAND
Here we have a stunning Hofner Committee model which has a serial number dating it back to 1958 when they were distributed by The Selmer Company across the UK and other countries.

This guitar was constructed from birdseye maple back and sides and features a solid spruce top bound with marbled binding. The birdseye maple back features a pattern made with the same binding material as the inner edges of the body that was found on the Committee models. Unfortunately, the lacquer finish shows a lot of checking due to it`s age and how it has been stored. Along with the lacquer checking the body does show a few signs of finish having worn off on the front back and sides but only in small areas. The bridge has been made from ebony and features individual string saddles made from fret wire. This guitar also features a lyre style tailpiece and at some point in its life has had an after market Framus pickup attached wired directly to an output jack located on the right side. Originally this model would have had a clear perspex pickguard however it is currently missing.

The neck on this Committee model is a 5 piece laminated neck and has been constructed from flamed maple and mahogany. This era of Committee model used ebony on the fingerboard with marbled binding on the edge with 8 marbled `four leaf clover` style inlays located at the 1sr, 3rd, 5th, 7,th 9th, 12th, 15th and 17th frets. This model of Committee has 22 frets with a zero fret just behind the nut. 1958 saw the Committee using the same large `frondose` headstock design as the older models however now featuring the Hofner brand with a `Mickey Mouse` style inlay at the top rather than the fishtail. The machine heads are single units with ornate floral plastic buttons. Due to the age and condition of this guitar, the action is quite high. We have had it set up to a playable height however to get it any lower would require a complete neck reset as there was no truss rod installed until the 1960 models. For this reason we have priced the guitar to reflect that however we are happy to accomodate this repair for an interested customer. Please get in touch if this is something you would be interested in.
